german

I did it! At least I think I did…Check it out:

Deutsch swatch

Okay, so it’s barely blocked (did it at work), but it’s done and it’s pretty, and that’s what counts.

This is my Deutch Swatch (come to think of it, “Swatch” wasn’t one of the words!) entry for Claudia’s contest. I really enjoyed her word-a-day theme this last month, and translating the German pattern into loops and knots was a blast, like a puzzle, or a logic problem. And see those cables there? Done without a Zopfnadel I’ll have you know.

You have until this Friday, November 16th, so it’s not too late to join in on the fun! Here’s the pattern, and here’s the summary of German knitting terms.

If only high school Spanish had been this engaging!

8 people already beat you to it on “Sprecken sie Stricken”

  1. pacalaga Says:

Pretty! And no Zopfnadel! Good work.
    (Maybe Germans don’t swatch?)

  2. mehitabel Says:

I so badly wanted to take German my freshman year in college, but they wouldn’t let me since I already had Spanish and French. Hah! Maybe I’ll have to do this challenge so I can at least learn a little Deutsch, even this many years later!

  3. Jean Says:

After all the years I lived in Germany I didn’t know what a Zopfnadel was. I knew what a nadel was, but not a Zopfnadel. Thanks for clearing that up for me now that I’m back in the States. lol. Very nice Musterstück.

  4. Chris Says:

    Ja, ist gut.

  5. Carol Says:

How bout workplace Spanish! I’m learning. I think…

  6. Claudia Says:

Beautiful swatch (Maschenprobe) Ms. La!!! Congrats!!!

  7. Sil Says:

Would it be cheating to join the Deutsch strikken even though one actually knows Deutsch? Would that be screwing with the curve? Very hubsches Maschenprobe, btw. (my spelling is ass…)

  8. Debbie Says:

Luckily, even Germans don’t always like to say all their long words ;) So you can say MaPro instead of Maschenprobe. Cool swatch. Looks like it would like to grow…

Well? Let's hear it then!
